Summit Experience

GLI Alumni convene in Medellín, Colombia, to reflect on their practice, broaden their perspective, and reengage with key leadership questions that are shaping the arts sector. Surrounded by peers from across the globe, and immersed in a setting that invites both critical insight and cultural immersion, the experience is designed as a catalyst for what comes next.

The Region: Antioquia

A gateway to Colombia’s geographic and cultural diversity, Antioquia is shaped by the Andes mountains, bordered by the Caribbean Sea, and crossed by two of the country’s major rivers. Its varied landscape gives rise to distinct local customs and accents — and a sense of hospitality that defines the region.

Comfama is one of Antioquia’s most trusted institutions. For over 70 years, this pioneering caja de compensación familiar has worked to expand opportunities for working families across the region. Today, it stands at the intersection of culture, education, and social innovation — positioning itself as a platform for reimagining what community-centered development can look like.

Comfama defines culture broadly — as the stories we tell and the values we live by. Its network of cultural centers creates space for dialogue, imagination, and action around urgent issues: climate and care, youth leadership, gender equity, economic inclusion, and peacebuilding. These hubs bring together learning, the arts, and leisure in service of civic connection and long-term transformation.

The 2025 Summit unfolds across two remarkable locations.

  • In Medellín, a global reference point for urban innovation and resilience, participants will engage with a thriving cultural scene shaped by bold experimentation and civic renewal.
  • In Jericó, nestled high in the mountains, they’ll encounter a town known for its coffee heritage, literary traditions, and breathtaking natural beauty. Jericó has hosted the Hay Festival since 2019, transforming its plazas and public spaces into vibrant forums for literature, music, and dialogue. Its museums, bookstores, cafés, and historic architecture create a setting where reflection, connection, and creativity unfold naturally.

Both sites reflect Antioquia’s spirit of reinvention — and its commitment to culture as a public good.
